Pandemic leads to service cutbacks and Centre closure

We are sorry to announce the closure of our Sunrise Centre and the scaling back of our recovery service and specialist support for males.

The pandemic has had a huge impact on charities across the UK, and we have not been able to secure funding for these services.

It means the Sunrise Centre has closed its doors after almost 10 years of supporting thousands of people to rebuild their lives after leaving abusive relationships. We will still be running parts of our recovery programmes, including limited group work. But we will no longer be able to run advice clinics, social activities or provide childcare for during programmes.

With 1 in 6 men experiencing some form of abuse, we know ensuring they have the right support is vital. Currently we are able to support high-risk male victims who live in the Derby and Derbyshire area and provide safe accommodation options and signpost to other agencies for any other male victim who contacts us.

Lucy Willis, Head of Domestic Abuse Services at Glow, said: “The Covid 19 pandemic has had a huge impact on many charities’ ability to raise funds for delivery of services and unfortunately, this includes Glow.

“It means we have been unable to secure sufficient funding to continue full delivery of our recovery service, our specialist support for males and cover running costs of our dedicated centre for survivors of domestic abuse.

“It’s incredibly important to us that survivors receive support to recover from the effects of abuse and rebuild their lives and recognise that there is now a gap in local provision. We are working hard to seek alternative sources of funding so that we can resume our full programme of support.”
