Schools praise Glow’s ‘outstanding’ Relationships without Fear early intervention programme

At Glow, we want to celebrate the amazing work of our education and prevention team, who deliver our Relationships without Fear early intervention programme.

In the UK, there are 130,000 children living in homes with domestic abuse where there’s a high risk of murder or serious harm. Thousands more live with less serious domestic abuse every day.* That’s why we launched Relationships without Fear, to teach children and young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships.

The six-week programme aims to break the cycle of domestic abuse by helping children understand healthy relationships and what to do if they experience domestic abuse, either at home or in their future relationships. There’s also guidance for teachers and follow-up support for pupils when the programme ends, if necessary.

We deliver the programme from £1.94 per child, based on a class of 30 pupils, for six weeks of invaluable relationship education that could save a life. The programme is available in Staffordshire, Cheshire and Derby.

Here’s what local schools told us after their pupils took part in the programme.

Merryfields School in Newcastle-under-Lyme said: “The Relationships without Fear programme was outstanding.

“The children understood what was being taught to them following the specialist adaptation of the programme to meet the school’s needs.

“Becky and Sarah delivered the programme. They were professional, down to earth and the children trusted them being in their environment. We look forward to working with Becky and Sarah again in the future.”

Teacher Mrs Saleem, from Clarice Cliff Primary School in Fenton, said: “The resources and materials are all age appropriate and allow children to access quite complex ideas in a simple and clear way.

“The facilitators use the children’s own experiences and conversations to guide the lesson and this provides opportunities for all children to have questions answered, perhaps some that they wouldn’t normally ask.

“Our children have started to recognise what ‘unsafe’ means to them and when they need to ask for help.”

Teacher Julia Vodrey, from St John Fisher Catholic College in Newcastle-under-Lyme, said: “Our students really enjoyed the sessions. Some pupils are still working with Glow and they feel very well supported.

“As a school, we really value the expert support that Glow provides. It gives us comfort to know that we have services like theirs to rely on to help our students.”

If you book Relationships without Fear for your school before 28 January 2022, you’ll save 10% on programmes delivered by 31 March 2022. Click here to find out more and book a programme.
