This year at Glow, our Education and Prevention team have created a range of posters for local schools to make pupils aware of the signs of unhealthy relationships.
It’s all part of our mission to end abuse at the source through education and prevention.
To achieve this mission, we deliver our relationship education programme, Relationships without Fear, in schools and colleges across Staffordshire, Cheshire and Derby.
The programmes are delivered from year 4 pupils to college students, with each session being fully adapted for the year group. The programme covers topics such as healthy and unhealthy relationships, red flags, consent and emotions.
To build on this important work, the Education and Prevention team wanted to create posters to help pupils recognise the signs of unhealthy relationships.
We’ve designed, printed and delivered over 1,000 posters that will be displayed on the back of school toilet doors, to remind pupils every day what’s not OK in a relationship and where they can find support if they need it.
They are age appropriate and adapted for different year groups, with three versions available: primary school, secondary school and college.
Sarah Buckley, Education and Prevention Team Leader, said: “We’re so proud to distribute these important posters to schools across Staffordshire and Cheshire.
“They’re a great way to show children and young people what’s not OK in a relationship, and where they can find help and guidance if they need it.
“We want all young people to know the signs of unhealthy relationships so they can hopefully avoid entering into these in their first relationships.”
The primary school posters explain how younger children can find help and support if they are witnessing abuse at home. The high school and college posters focus on red flags and tell students what isn’t normal in their first relationship.
Sarah added: “The posters have allowed us to reach even more children and young people and really build on the work that we already do in schools and colleges.
“It’s all part of our mission at Glow to address and end domestic abuse for children and young people.”
