The children and young people supported by Glow enjoyed a magical day out at Alton Towers Resort thanks to the Merlin’s Magic Wand charity.
Merlin’s Magic Wand, the dedicated children’s charity partner of Merlin Entertainments, offers tickets and travel grants to enable children to visit their attractions, including Alton Towers, SEA LIFE and Thorpe Park.
Last month, young people from our Staffordshire Moorlands refuge enjoyed a fun day out worth over £2,500 thanks to the charity, with 50 children heading off to Alton Towers Resort.
Nic Lowry, Head of Business Development and Fundraising, said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to Merlin’s Magic Wand for giving the children and young people that we support the chance to have such a magical day out at Alton Towers.”
Gemma Murphy, Fundraising Coordinator, added: “Many of the young people that we support haven’t visited a theme park before, so it’s absolutely wonderful that they were able to have such a fantastic day out.”
Erin Woods, Merlin’s Magic Wand Charity Manager, said: “Merlin’s Magic Wand are delighted to have enabled 50 young people supported by the fantastic Glow charity to enjoy a Magical Day Out at Alton Towers Resort.
“Our charity aims to bring a little magic into the lives of children and young people facing challenges of adversity and we hope to continue supporting more groups with Glow in the years to come, in order to spread the magic to as many young people as possible.”
A spokesperson for Alton Towers said: “It’s a privilege for us to be able to welcome deserving children and families to Alton Tower Resort for a truly memorable experience, thanks to the hard work of Merlin’s Magic Wand and charities like Glow.
“Being able to see first-hand how much it means to the beneficiaries is a real honour. We very much look forward to working with more charitable organisations and the amazing Wand team to ensure more young people are able to enjoy a fantastic day out here at the Resort.”
We provide support to those affected by domestic abuse, as well as delivering specialist sessions and safe accommodation.
We currently support children and young people between 5 and 19-years old, either living in the community or in one of their three refuges across North Staffordshire.
Across the UK, one in seven children and young people under the age of 18 will have lived with domestic violence at some point in their childhood.
Domestic abuse can severely impact mental and physical wellbeing, as well as behaviour and education. We are on a mission to end this cycle and rewrite the future for children and young people so they can live a life free from abuse.
