At Glow, we’re on a mission to create a future free from relationship abuse.  

To achieve this, we work to end abuse at the source by bringing education and prevention together to make a lasting impact. One of the ways that we do this is through our specialist early intervention programme, Relationships without Fear.

Relationships without Fear is a six-week programme for children and young people in primary schools, secondary schools and colleges.

The programme aims to break the cycle of domestic abuse by helping young people understand healthy relationships and what to do if they experience domestic abuse at home or in their own relationships.

The programme also includes guidance for teachers and school staff, as well as follow-up support for pupils when the programme ends if necessary.

This year, to reach even more pupils, we’re holding our very first Glow Up event on 3 March.

The free online event will give teachers and school staff an exclusive look at the full programme for the very first time.

Our Programme Facilitators will guide attendees through workbooks and materials used in every Relationship without Fear session. There will also be guest speakers from schools who have previously taken part in the programme.

Children and Young People Domestic Abuse Programme Facilitator Becky Cotton said: “The Glow Up event is a great opportunity for schools to have an in-depth look at our Relationships without Fear programme.

“We’ve never done anything like this before, where we literally open our workbooks and let teachers and school staff look inside.”

Relationships without Fear is suitable for both primary and secondary school pupils, as well as college students.

Becky added: “The programme has been adapted to make it appropriate for all young people, from primary school pupils to teenagers.

“We know that some teachers might be wary about discussing domestic abuse in their classroom, so we want to use this event as a way to show them that it can be done safely, with follow-up support from us, to make a long-lasting impact on their pupils.

“We create a safe space where students feel comfortable discussing what it means to have a healthy relationship.

“During the event we’ll be demonstrating activities from our primary and secondary school programmes so that teachers of all age groups can get a real feel for how interactive the sessions are.

“Following the event, we hope that teachers and school staff will be excited to play their part in educating the younger generation about healthy and unhealthy relationships. We also hope they will have a better understanding of the programme.

“We believe that every child has the right to learn about what is healthy and unhealthy in a relationship. It’s so important to give children these tools to help keep themselves safe in their very first relationships, as well as future relationships in their adult lives.”
