Glow awarded funding to deliver domestic abuse awareness training to homelessness professionals

At Glow, we’re on a mission to create a community where no one, no matter their background, identity or circumstances,
feels vulnerable within their relationships. We’re working to end abuse at the source by bringing education and prevention together to make a lasting impact.

To achieve this, we work with professionals to provide domestic abuse awareness training. We help people understand the signs of abuse and how they can respond to disclosures in their different lines of work.

This year, we’ve been awarded funding to provide free domestic abuse awareness training to agencies who work with people experiencing domestic abuse and homelessness.

The online half-day sessions will focus on domestic abuse relating to homelessness and housing. They’ll include
information about the Domestic Abuse Act and other relevant legislation around domestic abuse and homelessness.

By the end of the training, participants will understand the dynamics of domestic abuse and be able to challenge common assumptions. They’ll also have a better understanding of why someone might stay in an abusive relationship.

Training will also cover how to safely respond to disclosures from colleagues and customers, as well as details of local support services.

The sessions are primarily available for anyone working in a role with a ‘Duty to Refer’ under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. You can check your eligibility on the government’s website by clicking here.

This includes roles in:

·        Prisons, secure training centres and secure colleges.

·        Young offender institutions and youth offending teams.

·        Probation services, including community rehabilitation companies.

·        Job centres in England.

·        Adult and children’s social service authorities.

·        Emergency departments and urgent treatment centres.

·        Hospitals providing inpatient care.

We’d love to offer the sessions to any agency that supports individuals and families experiencing homelessness. If your job does not fall under a ‘Duty to Refer’ role, you may still be able to attend, so please get in touch to express your interest.

Sessions will be delivered online via Microsoft Teams. The dates are:

16 February from 9.30am to 1pm
28 February from 1pm to 4.30pm
14 March from 1pm until 4.30pm
15 March from 9.30am to 1pm
