At Glow, everything we do starts with one simple belief, that everyone deserves to live free from abuse.
For women who have experienced domestic abuse, rebuilding life after such pain can feel overwhelming. That’s why this summer, our Staffs Moorlands refuge was proud to deliver the Power of Change programme, a course facilitated and led by one of our dedicated support workers.
The sessions gave women time and space to pause, to make sense of what they’ve been through, and to start believing in themselves again.
A safe space to be heard
Power of Change, developed by Women’s Aid, is built around understanding, healing, and empowerment. Talking through topics like power, privilege and mothering through domestic abuse, which really spoke to the experiences of the women who took part.
Together, they shared their stories with honesty and courage. Some moments were emotional, others full of laughter and light. Each woman’s voice mattered, and in listening to one another, they found strength and understanding that many said they hadn’t felt in a long time.
“Watching the women support one another, laugh together, and realise how strong they are has been so powerful,” said Service Manager Nic. “Their connection was real, and it continues even now.”
From healing to hope
What began as a support group has become something much more.
After the sessions ended, the women decided to keep meeting, organising self-care breakfasts and creating vision boards to imagine their new homes and the futures they want for themselves and their children.
These small, beautiful acts of self-care are what healing looks like. They remind us that recovery isn’t just about surviving, it’s about rediscovering joy, confidence, and hope.
Moving forward, together
At Glow, we know that ending domestic abuse is about more than just leaving a situation. It’s about rebuilding a life, piece by piece, surrounded by people who understand.
Delivering Power of Change at our refuge has been an honour. We’re deeply grateful to Women’s Aid for developing such a transformative programme, and to every woman who took part, for her bravery, honesty, and strength.
Together, we keep moving forward, towards a world where every woman can live safely, freely, and without fear.
